He says that he doesn’t do romance, but when I was whisked away to a beautiful hotel right on the beach with all the bells and whistles, I think he proved himself wrong.
My birthday and Valentine’s day are fairly close together, but as James also works away and wouldn’t be home for either, he went full out and booked the “Rock Star Suite of Cornwall” at Fistral Beach Hotel. He’s a keeper. I’m sure I said that last year too, when he took me to Venice (!!) but it’s true.
Long distance relationships can be hard on both of you and your hearts, there is a lot of longing, and missing the other, a lot of squishing his pillow behind your back when you sleep and he’s not there, and a lot of times that you experience something in life and feel like you should be experiencing those moments together. But dealing with distance is a whole other post, maybe we’ll touch on that one day. (Thoughts?)
So. When we are together, we’re very very fortunate to be able to spoil each other and do wonderful things together. Fistral Beach Hotel allowed us to be as relaxed and content, and James even said “more so”, than when we went to Italy!
Pulling up to the Newquay seafront hotel, I was still unsure of his plan, having been told only to pack a bag with something nice for the evening, a change of clothes for tomorrow and a bikini. The awe struck feeling started before I even had my seatbelt off in the car, parked up facing the whole view across the bay. Walking into the hotel we were handed arrival drinks in the foyer then led across to the bar/lounge before headed up to the top floor and showed into our “Rockstar Suite”.
I don’t know how a rockstar feels, God knows I am the least rock and roll 22 year old you’ll find, sadly, but I did feel like a queen.
We were shown into this huge room, with floor to ceiling windows right across the side, all the way from the wall with a big screen TV on it, right across to the King sized bed at the other end and further still into the bathroom.
The luxury sets in as you tread across the soft carpet, past the champagne sat chilling waiting for you, the complimentary mini bar, and onto the smooth marble floors of the bathroom setup with a large double tub, and a hot tub by the window.
Still, a week on, I can’t fathom how divine and luxurious the room was and the sense of peace, tranquility and unbelievable luck we felt to be there together.
With the spa treatments, pool, room service, and every other kind of 5* treatment you can imagine on hand, we were royalty for a night. Real as we are though, we locked ourselves away into our incredible room, soaking in every moment whilst soaking ourselves in the hot tub!
Getting away, even for a night is the most relieving way to connect together again when you haven’t seen your partner for a couple of weeks. We weren’t far from home, only a 40 minute drive!
Some of my favourite things all came together whilst we were away that night:
1. We could look at the beach with a first class view,
A trip to the beach was pretty much all I’d asked for for my birthday.
2. It was just the two of us, uninterrupted.
Time without needing to answer calls, texts, organise life and to just be, is something a value I hold so high.
3. A beautiful meal out.
We went for the most delicious meal at Lewennick Lodge. Again, romance.
We also ordered room service before we went because all the hot tubbing and relaxing worked up an appetite.
4. Black and White Movie
The home away from home feel set in when we turned on the TV and found that my favourite film, Rear Window, was playing. We curled up together and watched that, it was my perfect.
Sometimes, a staycation is the best vacation. Quality time together is so important, stripping back distractions and focusing on the two of you. Thank you to everyone at Fistral Beach Hotel for allowing us to do that.
Now to look at the membership perks because the spa really does look too good not to go back to….
